Coming out of the Closet

Coming out of the Closet
In Africa he is a strange site. Because of my beliefs, I feel the same among creative types.

Since the inception of my website, 2 and half years ago, I’ve kept something about me in the dark.

In Africa he is a strange site. Because of my beliefs, I feel the same among creative types.

Alas, it caused writer’s block, preventing me from consistently creating content and clearing the production line. I’ve discussed with friends whether or not I should disclose my secret. Should I reveal the truth and risk rejection or remain stifled? To be or not to be, me.

Of course, I started this site to promote the Creed of Kings Saga, Blood & Soul, and future writings or creative endeavors. I love to entertain and inform but I can’t do it to the best of my ability if I disregard an indispensable part of me. I had truly imagined much more for my site, but I became gridlocked after Blood & Soul became a bestseller on Amazon for 5 and a half months, a respectful start for an independent author’s first book. I was afraid to jeopardize the tenuous success I was having by revealing certain things about me.

The bigger picture of who I am thrives mainly on my personal Facebook with friends, connections, and followers there. But Facebook is an inferior format for the type of content I love to put out. I hold back from utilizing the better format on my site…because of fear of disclosure. Therefore, I lose possible connections and followers out there on the world wild web.

Another day goes by while crickets chirp. This lukewarm existence has to stop!

Even though I’m driven to capture and share experiences, thoughts, humor, and beliefs through writing, pics, video etc. I’ve been censoring myself and choking that output. Meanwhile, there’s a growing backlog of essays and ideas simmering on the backburner. It’s annoying to sit on this stuff and watch it go stale.

Let’s get to the “secret” that’s not really a secret. All my friends know I’ve not been married for a while. And, that has NOTHING to do with this essay. I’m as hetero as they get.

Here’s the deal.

It’s generally believed creative types like me are politically “liberal” or “progressive” or Democrat. Stephen King is a big time “Liberal.” Most actors/actresses are huge “Liberals.” When I scout around online, interacting with fellow writers 9 out of 10 times they’re “Liberal.” So, I always find myself desiring to come out of the closet and shock the hegemony and reveal that I’m not a “Liberal,” I’m a “Conservative,” and I can defend my beliefs like a Ninja.

We’re extremely rare. Perhaps it’s persecution? Here’s a very few of the brave few. Tim Allen,  Dennis Miller, Adam Baldwin, Tim Hawkins. Furthermore, to make things “worse,” I’m not a new-ager, I’m a Christian. A Christian writer with huge respect for C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien.

There needs to be more of us. And, if not more, why not? I want to make it safe to be a creative type and be a liberty-loving “Conservative”/libertarian. I want us to come out of the closet and breathe the free air.

That’s been the biggest thing holding me back from creating content. This doesn’t mean I’ll be posting Alex Jones and L. A. Marzulli videos every day. It means I won’t hold back from producing content that expresses my philosophy on any topic.

Now let the story of this website begin …again.

I’ve decided to keep Blood & Soul at $2.99 on Kindle at least until I publish the next book in the saga.

    • I figured you would get it. 😉 Thanks for the comment. So far I’ve got lots of views on this one. Hopefully, it will an interesting year on my website and will continue into the future. I followed you on google btw. Take care.

    • That is a thought provoking statement. Our deeds are our creeds. And, our deeds often reveal flaws in our creeds. I’ve done some pretty bad deeds in my days on earth and embraced faulty creeds. I need mercy ;-). I need a Creed/Truth outside of and higher than myself to redirect/reboot me (a flawed man) back to the right deeds.
