Great Progress

Chipping away.  After wasting some valuable time, I’ve finally got things in place for writing more. I’ve had big issues with my laptop and time over the last year. My laptop was huge. I loved the big screen. Some of you have seen it. It’s an anchor. It’s powerful. I think it could be used as a weapon. It’s lethal and it’s awesome.

But when I sit down to write at my favorite places it’s like setting up camp. The charger is huge, the laptop is gigantic and it weighs a “ton” because it’s very sturdy and tough. It goes through battery life in a relative instant. Doomed to lugging it around until I found a plug at the diner or coffee shop.

I wrote huge swaths of Blood & Soul while on location at my job because, when, it was much more flexible and not so time-consuming. Now my job takes a lot more of my little scrawny mind and it’s just the nature of the job that it will sap mental energy – this is not a complaint, it’s just the way it is …and I do love my job and the people I work with.

With more stress outside of work, that is not a complaint either, just a fact, it deplete my energy. I found myself not having the energy to set up “camp”, focus and write. Add to that the anchor of an inefficient computer draining my time and mind even more.

Lately, the wish to finish Out of Oblivion became urgent when I started thinking I might never get it done. That horrified me.

I feel writing and writing books is my true calling. In spite of challenges I started pushing myself to grab moments for writing even with my big power-sucking laptop. I planned to keep it charged and snag little moments. These little moments became precious and perilous due to low battery life. Hitting my stride was denied unless a power plug was nearby.

I was making slight progress and that excited me. A little progress started paying off in satisfaction but turned to disappointment when I saw the 10% bar block the view of my screen.

These moments pushed me into a decision I needed to make before now. I was waiting for the perfect financial scenario. When does that ever happen? Longing to seize on these precious moments and make them more productive I finally decided to buy a new laptop.

It’s super light, solid state and a highly rated Acer Aspire R. So, now I feel unbound from the old anchor laptop. No more lugging around 10 lbs. The ASUS with its huge charger and giant screen there is no more searching for a power outlet.

As a result, the chips in the chipping away at Out of Oblivion have grown considerably and I’m traveling a lot faster through the next book in the saga. When my attitude improves I write more, so do my story building chops. In this recent happy surge, I’ve greatly improved the opening chapters of Oblivion and I’ve written about 40 thousand words in 3 months.

I should be able to publish Out of Oblivion in 2016.
