Bruins and Neely anti-Constitution?
Statement from Bruins player Tim Thomas: “I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People. This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government. Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL. This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT”

Statement from Bruins President Cam Neely: “As an organization we were honored by President Obama’s invitation to the White House. It was a great day and a perfect way to cap our team’s achievement from last season. It was a day that none of us will soon forget. We are disappointed that Tim chose not to join us, and his views certainly do not reflect those of the Jacobs family or the Bruins organization. This will be the last public comment from the Bruins organization on this subject.”
My statement: If there had been a Republican in the White House, Thomas’ decision would have been hailed as patriotic. Am I to assume by Neely’s statement that the Bruins and Neely are against the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence? Thomas is exercising his right under those founding documents. Do the Bruins and Neely prefer another system? It’s an intellectually clumsy statement. Neely is a part of our societal problem. Philosophically he’s a dumbass.
What utter disregard and disrespect for the OFFICE, not the man, but the OFFICE of the President of the United States and honour bestowed on the team as a whole. Tim Thomas is a posturing, narrow minded jerk who does no honour for the team. As part of a TEAM he should have stifled his political views (which he says they aren’t – liar) and gone – for the pride of the TEAM.

For the sake of argument, let’s say there is a gay player on the Bruins team when they win the Stanley Cup. President Rush Limbaugh invites them to the White House after he just signed legislation to restore “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” as a military policy.
Would you feel the same if the gay player refused to go to the White House?
I was so happy when I read on Yahoo that Thomas (a fellow Michigander) wasn’t going to White House. He’s a patriot for standing up for his beliefs and people should have no problem with this. I always suspected Thomas was a conservative since he has a “don’t tread on me” logo on the back of his goalie mask. Plus I thought Cam Neely was Canadian so we shouldn’t care what he thinks about American politics. . . .LOL. Let’s go Red Wings! And in the Yahoo article I believed it mentioned that some basketball player refused to go to the White House when Bush was in office. Just Sayin’

I agree with Thomas because I think he has a point. I agree with his views. Now, if he wasn’t going because he disapproves the decorations in the Oval Office that’s another matter, unless those decorations are in the motif of Cuban Communist Party flag.
I found it odd the Neely made a blanket statement about Thomas’ views, in effect saying the Bruins did not hold the views of the founding, which is stupid. It was clumsy.
